AED Program Information
The University’s Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) program was established and
enhanced to support the campus commitment to emergency preparedness and the health
and safety of the campus community. The primary objective of the program is to ensure
that an AED can be applied to a cardiac arrest victim within five minutes of the incident.
This interval is essential, as research demonstrates that early defibrillation substantially
increases survival rates.
In its most recent enhancement, the University, in partnership with the AED Committee,
Environmental Health and Safety Department, and Institutional Leadership, sought to
increase both the accessibility and effectiveness of AEDs. Devices are deployed at
University Police staffed locations across campus, including within police response
vehicles. These locations were strategically selected to maximize coverage and improve
response times. Placement with University Police ensures that AEDs are used by individuals
with proper CPR/AED training and who are positioned to facilitate rapid notification
of local emergency medical services. This deployment also supports accurate use reporting
and record maintenance, as required by state regulations.
AED locations are indicated on Campus Maps and include the following sites:
- CALS Building, Wellness Center
- Seton Building, First Floor University Police Desk
- Human Development Center, First Floor University Police Desk
- Allied Health and School of Nursing Building, First Floor University Police Desk
- Resource Center Building, First Floor University Police Desk
- Roman Parking Garage, Third Floor University Police Command Center
- Residence Hall Building, Second Floor University Police Desk
- School of Dentistry Clinic Building (maintained and accessed by clinic staff)

Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to become familiar with AED locations
on campus.

notified at the nearest AED site, by calling 568-8999, or via the LSU Shield App.
